Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

what to do about a joint title holder of a vehicle??

I purchased a vehicle at that time i did not understand the ends and outs of automobile titles anyway my boyfriend at that time swindled his name onto my title by saying that he had to be on there because he was going to be driving it. since then we have broken up and i traded the car in on a new vehicle he went and caused a big stink with the dealership so they returned the car back to me and now i own a new vehicle i have to pay for a old vehicle that i can't get rid of because he won't sign off and $2,000.00 to the dealership because they couldnt do anything with the car. but i have been the one that has payed for the vehichle and he also has his own vehicle that was purchased when we were together that i also payed on but he made sure that my name was not on that title. What is it that I can do???

You can sue in the circuit court and attempt to obtain a court order to sell the vehicle and only give him a small portion fo the proceeds. Obviously, this would be very expensive. The other thing you can do is to get him to sign off on the title by working out something with him. Now you've learned an expensive lesson. However, the best thing is that you have also learned what kind of guy he is and you should consider yourself lucky that you have cut your relationship with him. Bill Stern
