Can a US Military Servicemember submit a opinion article to a newspaper that is politically-based?

The answer is absolutely "Yes" so long as you do not sign your name under your military title. In other words, submitting an OpEd piece and signing it with your name alone should be fine. But, do not sign it or otherwise submit your name with your rank, title, position, or even the name of your Service. Also, be careful what you say. There are some things which could get you in trouble. Examples would include derogatory or negative comments about the Commander-in-Chief, comments which could be perceived as racial, etc.
