Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
Monthly rental price difference
I am a co-signer to my daughter who is renting an apartment in Ann Arbor Mi while schooling at U of M. The quoted price of $1400 month(shared by my daughter and a fellow school-mate) is now posted $1249 for her apartment and other identical ones in the same building just one week after my daughter and her school-mate's parents signed the lease. However, my co-signature is not yet turned in by my daughter. Are we obligated to pay the $1400 or is it reasonable to ask that we pay the $1249 per month price? Thank You, Tom

Re: Monthly rental price difference
I would use the fact that you have not turned in the signature and are therefore, not legally obligated on the debt, as some bargaining power to negotiate the rent. Furthermore, you can discuss the possibility of going to the Ann Arbor Housing Association and Washtenaw Area Apartment Association.
