Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

What's my responsibility?

A friend and I went into a rental agreament with an apartment complex for 1year, we fulfilled that agreement then renewed our lease. One month after renewal my roommate died. This was discussed with the apartment manager that I could no longer afford the premises because of the death of my roommate. This manager assured me that my style of apartment went quick ,I would just be responsible for those months in between...at a later conversation the manager stated that there was a prospect scheduled to move in around September(2months later). Now it is the end of october and no has moved in and the damage is 7916.50 to pay the lease off which ends in February! Isn't there some type of law about a time frame or something?

A landlord seeking monetary damages against a tenant has the duty to mitigate those damages, which may involve finding a replacement tenant. If you require assistance, please contact me at www.lawgreg.com.
