Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

My husband just died. We had been seperated for 2 years. Am I still responsible for his bills, and who do I need to contact? There was no will, he was receiving disability and medicare and medicade. I truly have no idea as to what I need to do The mortgage was in his name only although the house itself is in both of our names.

Who you contact depends on the bill and the ramifications. For example, many mortgages have a due on death clause, so once you tell them that he is gone, they will probably want all of the outstanding mortgage paid immediately. If he has no money and no assets, it may not matter to you and you may not want to bother contacting anyone. Any bills you did not agree to be responsible for, will not be your obligation.
