Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Michigan

Next of Kin rules/laws - Help... My brother-in-law died in Feb & since their Dad is still living he was appointed personal representative even though my husband brought forth the fact he had been estranged from his children for years & was abusive to them as youths.

Could someone please explain the order & since his brother didn't have a will & the Father was named PR is he entitled to any proceeds?

Thank you
