Is it illegal to receive workmans compensation benefits and unemployment benefits for the same time period?

It is not illegal to receive both workers comp and unemployment comp for the same period. However, under Michigan law, for every dollar that you receive from unemployment, there is a dollar deducted from your comp. Therefore, receipt of unemployment benefits lowers the value of your comp case. Furthermore, to get unemployment, you must certify that you are ready, willing and able to work which may conflict with your position in your comp case. William S. Stern
