i own a bowling alley and had the roof repaired bt a contractor the cost was 26000 dollars i paid 22000 and my roof leaks and now the contractor is putting a mechanics lien on the property for the 4000 that isnt paid there was no written contract and he gave me nothing in writing can he do this ?

Yes, the contractor can file the lien legally, but enforcing it without a written contract and when there are defects in the workmanship would be a problem for them.

You should have another contractor give you an estimate to get it done right and then negotiate a discount with contractor to release the lien.
