Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

car loan company

i have an auto loan with a major company who never attempted to get the correct title until a year later. they are now trying to reposses the vehicle. the previous loan was in my husbands name alone, we refinanced the car and i was primary on the loan. they have no title with my name on it, nor do they have a title that states they are the lien holder, but they did get the lien release from the old company. can they still legally reposses the car?
