Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Minnesota

My Ex-roommate moved out in December, but before he moved he signed a contract stating that he would pay me the back rent that he owed me, and pay off the Bunk Bed that i charged to my store charge card. He kept telling me he would pay it off when he got his taxes,but he hasn't paid me one cent, and now will not return my phone calls or text messages. What can i do to get the money that he owes me?

1st have an experienced Attorney send a Demand Letter, then bring suit if he doesn't pay.
