Legal Question in Criminal Law in Minnesota

I was very intoxicated at a bar. I spilled my drink over their cash register. The bar is claiming they want to charge me with distruction of property and that it would be a felony because the cash register cost 4000.00. I told them I would be willing to settle out of court. Isnt that what insurance is for? Am I liable?

First, it is not a criminal offense unless your act to damage the reguister was intentional. If it was not, it is a civil matter. Even un a civil matter, if the act was due to an accident, liability is unlikely. You werein a bar. You were served alcohol. You spilled alccohol. That is hardly an unforseen circumstance and one which calls into questiuon the negince of the bar with regard to serving you.
