Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

Bui

I live in Minnesota but was on Vac. in Alabama and received a BUI. What are the repercussions of me not going back there for court. PS...I will never be in Bama again! I only blew a .10

Re: Bui

Very bad idea to not go back and deal with this. In the event of another offense in Minnesota, this will probably turn up as your first offense because they now have a nation-wide computer hookup. Then you are treated as a second time offender.

To a large extent this depends on what Alabama reports to other states. Only an Alabama lawyer can tell you that for sure; but my expectation would be that these days the record from Alabama is an open book and easy to find by a Minnesota law enforcement agency.

I don't know what an Alabama lawyer could do, but if he could get the charge reduced to something else that is not alcohol related, this could be kept off your driving record entirely.

If you don't deal with this there will be an arrest warrant for you in Alabama. That warrant could turn up when you go to renew your Minnesota license; and you might be told that you have to take care of this before a new license will be issued.
