divorce settlement

my x has to pay me 20,000 to make our division of property even. it is stated in our agreement that he will have the elevator sell grain in my name and write a check to me for the 20,000. who pays the taxes on the grain sold?

If your court order made no indication of who would pay that fee, it is an unclear issue. Certainly, there is a strong argument that the payment is for a proeprty settlement and, as a result, is not income to the person to whhom it is paid.
