Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

law suit for not paying half of medical

Hi,

I will like help with a matter. My exhusband is threatening to sue me to pay for half of my son's medical expenses. In the divorce degree it is stated that we should pay for half, however hw has not been paying for half of expenses for my son that I have paid. Now I am not agreeing to pay for a bill he got of 3000 dollars and other that is under my son's name for about the same amount.

I would like to know if he has eny grounds to sue me with the help of an attorney since the amount is minimal and teh way I understand when it is under 5000 it is small claims only without attorney intervention. My son will be 19 in july and the child support payments stoped when he graduated at the begining of june.

Thank you very much

Re: law suit for not paying half of medical

You can be brought to family court for contempt for non-payment since it is a form of child support. A court may enter Judgement against you and order contribution to the expense incurred. You, of course, could file your own motion for the expenses that you paid that were not reimbursed.
