Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

surrogacy?

Almost 4 years ago we did a legal surrogacy. The problems we are having is with the surrogate mothers-mother. She was upset about the whole situation that we did with her daughter, she says because she was not informed. The surrogate was 34 at the time of birth (consenting adult). The problem is the surrogates mother wants to start problems for us and our son. She says if she sees us in a store or in public she will aproach our son and tell him she is his grandmother, she also is going as far as wanting to upset him in his preschool setting. Is there anything short of a protection order that we can do to get her to stay away from us? She only lives 3 miles from us.

Re: surrogacy?

You probably need to file for a restraining order.

Re: surrogacy?

The surrogate mother's mother has no rights. You would be within your rights to seek a restraining order.

Re: surrogacy?

You would not qualify for an order for protection because of domestic abuse, but you very well might qualify for an order for protection under the harassment statute. Assuming you live in Hennepin County, call 612-348-3000 - the Hennepin Country information number - and ask for the domestic abuse office. They handle the harassment orders too.

Good luck.
