Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

girlfriends rent never paid

My girlfriend moved in with me at the end of last November and moved out the end of this past June. She never paid me any money for living here even though she was supposed to ''help out with the bills'' we never set a dollar amount of what that help would be. We bought a minivan together in January (totally in my name), but we traded her car worth $2000 and my car worth $7500 in for the van under the assumption that she would have a car when or if we sold the van. She is taking me to court for the $2000 for her car and I don't think it that is fair because what we discussed was for her to pay the car payment ($170/mo) and part of the insurance($48/mo) and she never paid any of that. I don't think I owe her anything and believe I should file a counter claim for the lost rent, the car payments and car insurance I had to pay among other things I paid for. Basically, what I think would be the fairest is for both claims to be thrown out, but I don't know if I have a any claim to the lost rent. What do you think?

Re: girlfriends rent never paid

File the counterclaim based on the oral agreement. Judge will decide reasonable share (likely 50/50 of rent + Util) Was she on the lease? Did she pay any util or groceries etc.
