Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota

invitee status

i was given an actual case senario for a law enforcement class. this was an actual case that was thrown out of court because the officer forgot a procedure or there was something he was saposed to do prior to approaching a vehicle that has to do with invitee status. two officers approached a gas station approximatly 2am after store hours and noticed a cadilac with fogged up windows parked between two u-hauls. the gas station had recently had several burglaries so the two officers ran the plates and the came back to a different vehicle. they checked the store and everything was locked up and no signs of entry. our teacher said the case was thrown out because he didnt do something prior to approaching the vehicle that has to do with invitee status. ive talked with several officers and they have all said they thought he would have enough resonable suspicion to approach the vehicle. is there any other procedures or anything dealing with invitee status that would have gotten the case thrown out?

Re: invitee status

As previously stated, thelaw requires that the officer have a reasonable suspicion of a prticularized crime being commited. A general suspicion is not enough. What is a reasonable suspicion is based on the particular facts of the case.
