How do I find out if someone had a will after they have died?

A living will is different from a Will. A living will determines who will make decisions related to health care and what you desire in that regard. A will is a testamentary document that determines how assets will be distributed on a maker's death.

The latter can be filed with the county where the person lives or would be distributed to the personal representative appointed to the estate. If not filed, it would be difficult to determine if a will exists.
