Re: burglary

It is often said that "a person who goes to trial representing himself has a fool for a client" therefore it is not recommended at all. In fact, I would suspect 99% of the attorneys in America would consider it foolish to try to enter a plea of guilty or to go to trial without competent counsel. You did not specify the type of structure burglarized. If you were charged with burglary of a residence there is a minimum prison term of three(3) to twenty-five (25) years unless you are likely to terrorize the occupant then the penalty is increased to a minimum of ten (10) years in prison. If it were a building other than a residence the penalty is "up to seven (7) years in prison". There is no way to predict what type of sentence you will get. It is MUCH better for an attorney to argue for leniency on your behalf than it is for you to ask for leniency on your own behalf. If I were in your position I would do whatever necessary (legally) to obtain funds to hire a competent attorney at once!
