Re: pressing charges while in jail

If you are an inmate in a Detention Facility and you desire to file criminal charges against another inmate in the facility you would be required to appear before the local City Court Clerk (if the Detention Center is located inside a city) or the Justice Court Clerk (when the Detention facility is located outside a City and in an unincorporated area of the County) to file the charges. Whether or not the Jail or the Sheriff will transport you to the Clerk's Office for the purpose of filing the charge(s) is discretionary with the law enforcement officers in charge of the prisoner. Therefore, it is most likely that the inmate who claims to be the victim of such an assault or threat would be required to wait until release to be able to file the charges.
