By itself, there is nothing inherently illegal about transferring money from one person to another. This is true no matter how many times you transfer it. But, if the purpose of transferring the money is to conceal a crime from authorities or to disquise the source of funds used in an illegal act, then the person transferring said money could be prosecuted as a co-conspirator in the entire illegal act or acts. This act of transferring ill gotten money might be its own mail or wire fraud infraction.

There may also be civil liability connected with such deceptive acts. If, for instance, one obtains money from a person who owes a debt, and is trying to hide their assets from collecion by the creditor, it could make the person assisting with the hiding of assets liable to the creditor, even though they have already sent the money to another person.
