Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Missouri

Sex discimination and goverment agencys

I am a volunteer for a fire district. As a volunteer you can be promoted to payed status. The last time they hired they did not even consider me or other female volunteers much less post the openings. I had told them I was interested in a payed position serveral times instead the promoted a less experienced male volunteer. I also had to pay back money for a class I failed but they never made a male pay back money when they failed. I also have been put on the schedule to work payed shifts but then was taken off and replace by a male volunteer with out notice or reason. I could go on but what should I do? Can I take legal action?

Although you did not provide enough information to give you a definitive answer, it sounds like you may have been the victim of gender discrimination. I suggest that you find an attorney in your area who handles discrimination cases. The fire department may have violated policy by not announcing teh job vacancy. In the mean time, you could contact the EEOC or the Missouri Human Rights Commission. They will assist you filing a complaint. But, if it were me, I would visit with an attorney about the facts of your case first.

Good Luck, and let me know if I can help.
