Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

Getting custody of my step-daughter that lives in KCMO.

My husband has a daughter in MO, her mom can't afford to take care of her or the other six kids she has. The mother won't give her up willingly and won't let us see her, we can provide a better life and we want to take custody of her. What do I need to do? Also, if she does come to visit, can we obtain some type of paper work to keep her here until we can go to court? We need some serious help that child is in a VERY BAD situation.

Re: Getting custody of my step-daughter that lives in KCMO.

The courts where the child lives are the only ones who can deal with her situation. Usually Child Protective Services is involved to conduct an investigation and evaluation concerning the fitness of the child's situation.

The minor child's best interests are the controlling considerations. That does not necessarily mean who has the most money, but can turn a great deal on who can provide the greater opportunities.

If all attempts to persuade Mom have failed, then contact a family law lawyer in MO where the child lives for a consultation concerning your situation.

Good luck.
