Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

i have a grand daughter that has a daughter and not married to the father of the child. they were going yo get married but some certain cercumstances arouse and she left mo. with children and went to utha. he talked her into coming back and they would get back together. john and stepmother

went to utah and got stephanie and children. in the mean time before john and stepmother went to utah they got a lawyer and had papers filed for peturnity and custody of stephanie's daughter. then went to utah and picked up stephanie and children. as soon as they arrived back to mo stephanie was served with these papers.. is this legal if not what can be done? also went to court and johns stepmom and father got custody they are know divorced and the little girl lives with johns rael mother.stephanie has not seen her daughter for three years and his mother tells the girl stephanie is not her mother and won't let her see her or any one else in our family. john is in prison for having sex with minor and i don't know when he will get out. what can stephanie do about getting her daughter back
