Legal Question in Family Law in Missouri

I have recently received paperwork from my ex-wife to surrender my parental rights and agree to my daughters being adopted by her husband. She has stated to me that even though I owe back child support the courts may forgive the back child support and I would not be required to pay it. I know that once the papers are signed current child support will cease, what normally happens to the back support?

Signing away your rights will not automatically end your present and future child support obligation. If the Court approves your exes new husband to adopt, it will end it once the adoption is final. It won't terminate or Satisfy your back support debt. You should consult directly with a family law attorney in your area. You need advice specific to the particular facts of your situation.

It depends if you owe the mother or the state. The mother can forgive the debt to her but she cannot forgive the debt to the state.
