Legal Question in Employment Law in Missouri

Age discrimination in the workplace

I have work for a motel for about two months. I became freinds with a 65 year old woman who is also an employee at the same motel. The superviser who is also the owner has been giving this woman a very hard time since the 65 year ols started working there three months ago. The superviser calls her stupid to her face, and makes comments to her about her age, and tells her that she is too old to be working as a housekeeper. The superviser also complains to me about this woman, and makes rude comments about her age!! The superviser is constantly on to this woman for every little thing that she can find to get on to her for. She doesn't do the rest of us like this, and others make the same little mistakes as the elderly woman does. I feel soo bad for the way she is being treated, The woman is litterly being hollared at on a daily bases, The woman is afraid to quit because she can't afford to! What if anything can be done? I have witnessed alot of the name calling and rude behavior from the superviser! I know without a doubt in my mind, that it's all because of this woman's age since the superviser has complained to me about her age! The superviser's husband was one person who hired her.

Re: Age discrimination in the workplace

Your friend can contact either the Missouri Human Rights Commission or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). She can fiel acomplaint with them. They may or may not investigate her claim. But, this complaint has to be filed before she can sue the motel company.

Based upon the facts you described, this elderly woman may have a vaild claim. You are good to help her.

Good Luck
