Can a former employer give you a bad reference

my former employer is giving me bad work refernces. Is there anyway I do can stop her. I quit my job and she is telling people lies and I have the proof.

The legal remedy for folks spreading lies about you is an action for slander [spoken] or libel [written]. The truth is an absolute defense, always, to these actions.
