I would like to know if I can break a lease legally if I feel that it is unsafe to live there?

Re: breaking a lease

It depends on the terms of the lease. Absent any governing provision in the lease, you would have to be able to prove a constructive eviction based upon some action the landlord has taken or failed to take. In addition, circumstances would need to exist that did not exist at the time you entered into the lease. I would recommend that you have an experienced landlord/tenant attorney review your lease as well as the facts that you believe entitle you to terminate your lease. Best of luck with your situation.
