Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Missouri

I live at the end of a private road that has been shared by three property owners for at least 40 years. All three properties have been sold several times in that 40 years. About 3 years ago one of the property owners put a gate across the road. The gate has never been closed. Is this legal? Is this an attempt to close the road? What should I do?
