Legal Question in Consumer Law in Nevada

can a consumer cancel a contract

i signed a contract yesterday for a swimming pool and today i find out ( from someone i trust)that this company is a rip off i called the company and attempted to cancel my contract and they said that my verbal agreement with them over the phone cancelled out my ability to change my mind within three business days as the contract states. they say that they have me on tape agreeing to purchase the pool so therefore i can't cancel the deal. is this within the law??

thanks for any answers PS i feel pretty dumb today...

Re: can a consumer cancel a contract

I am not certain if you are in Tennessee or Nevada. I am in Nevada, but this general information should be applicable. If the contract gives a 3-day right of cancellation, you can still cancel within 3 days even if you orally said you wanted the contract.

You need to follow the directions given for cancellation and stop payment on any checks. The cancellation needs to be in writing and sent certified mail with return receipt. Faxing is also a good way to get a record when the confirmation is printed.
