Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

Refusing payment

I am now handling my parents debts, power of attorney, and tried making a payment to a collection agency. Can they refuse payments? Can I get the original bill from the agency that sent this to collections?

Re: Refusing payment

Are you or your parents in Nevada? Is the power of attorney notarized and have you sent the collection agency a copy of the power of attorney? Are you paying from their checking account or yours?

Collection agencies may technically refuse payment of less than the amount they demand, but it is ofteneither a bluff or the payment offered is too low.

If the collection agency contacts your parents directly, they must observe the provisions of the federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
