Search of property

Is a detective legally able to enter property through a back entrance without a warrant but with possession of an annonomous letter of criminal information taking place in the house?

Thank you for your inquiry.

An officer's warrantless entry into your home is only justifiable under a few exceptions:

1) If the officer is at your home and sees evidence of criminal activity in plain sight he may enter the property.

2) If the officer has emergency circumstances requiring his entry to prevent physical injury or harm he may enter the property.

That sounds like an illegal search unless confirming evidence of the crime was in plain view from the outside.
