It depends upon the value of the horse. Generally, a justice of peace in small claims court may hear matters in which the amount in controversy does not exceed $5,000; Justice Court hears matters where the amount in controversy exceeds $5,000, but is not greater than $10,000; and District Court hears matters in which the amount in controversy exceeds $10,000.
