Rick Williams Law Offices of Frederick D. (Rick) Williams, Chtd.

That depends on the contract. If you can review the retainer agreement you signed with your attorney, it will reveal whether you hired an individual or the firm. Sometimes, what appears to be a firm is really just a group of attorneys sharing office space and resources, so without seeing the retainer agreement, we cannot answer whether you are a client of that individual or a firm. If the latter, another attorney in the office should be picking up the deceased lawyer's files and continuing his work. If not, then you are entitled to retrieve your complete file from the deceased attorney's office and assign it to new counsel.

Good luck with this situation. Don't delay to get straight answers and make sure no deadlines or court dates are missed in your matter!
