Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Nevada

my father died and does not have a will that i know of. I have a step brother that lives/lived with my father for the past 22 years. How do i go about making sure the step brother does not sell everything or drain my fathers bank account?

If the bank account is joint with step brother and father or payable on death to step brother, you can't do anything. Otherwise, give a certified copy of your father's death certificate to the bank so that they will know he has died and freeze the account.

As to personal possessions without a title such as guns, jewelry, coins, gold, silver, etc., if you think there is anything of that nature of substantial value you can file to open a probate estate. However, this will cost you, probably a few thousand dollars to start. I, and most attorneys I know, would not want to open a probate estate on the mere chance that there is something valuable there without a considerable upfront retainer.
