Legal Question in Bankruptcy in New Jersey

Lost Bankruptcy Papers

I filed for bankruptcy about 4 or 5 years ago. I need the discharge papers now and can't find them. How do I go about getting copies of the bankruptcy papers and or discharge papers. Thank you in advance

Re: Lost Bankruptcy Papers

First, try your lawyer. S/he may still have the file in a reasonably accessible location. The Court has almost certainly sent your file to the archives, but it can be retrieved at a cost of I believe $25. Contact the Clerk of the bankruptcy court for the details.

Contact the court clerk for the bankruptcy court where you filed. They can locate the records for you. Send a request in writing with all information to help ID you, especially your SS number, and te case number if you have it. There will be a charge for copying.
