Your question is really about "asset protection." If you carefully title and organize your business and personal assets you can typically protect your spouse. Further, you may be able to limit your exposure.

Asset protection requires that you initially set-up the business correctly, and that you title your personal assets in the best way. This may include trusts, Limited Liability Companies and a variety of other legal entities. Then, you have to be willing to continually follow through (this is where many business owners mess-up!)

The only way you can do this right is to have a good tax and business attorney work on this for you.
