In the state of NJ, how long could it be before someone is brought to trial?

There is no definite answer to this. Each case's trial date is dependent upon the specific facts of that particular case. However, if there is no movement on a case for several months, your attorney can bring a motion for a Speedy Trial to try and force the issue. It depends on which county a charge is lodged and the seriousness of the offense charged.

From time of arrest it might be one year to two years before a trial date which is real.
