Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

license reinstatement after DUI, but, moving out of state.

My husband had his license suspended for 2 yrs. He is now eligible to get it back only if he installs a interlock device for 1 yr. I understand it to be this: He has to periodically bring the car to the interlock place after it is installed every month or 2 to have it ''serviced'' or to read the results? Our problem is this, we have sold our house and are moving to NC in 3 weeks. It is going to be impossible to drive back to NJ to have this interlock monitored.

My thoughts were to go ahead have it installed in NJ, then go to DMV, get the license back, have him drive to NC, and hopefully quickly change his NJ license to a NC license. What will happen to the interlock in NJ. We really do not know what to do.

You should ask your local motor vehicles office these questions. It might be possible for North Carolina motor vehicles to certify the interlock device periodically.
