Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Child Support Jurisdiction

My divorce was handled and complete in New Jersey where my ex-husband, I and my children resided before and during the divorce. My ex-husband now resides in New York, and the children live with me in New Jersey. My ex-husband pays child support through the county where I reside. This was set up at the time of the divorce and agreed upon. There were arrearages that were argued in a New Jersey court and he was ordered to pay these arrearages. He has since taken the matter to Staten Island, NY court and had the arrearages overturned. Is this right? I thought that only the court in which the divorce and where the children still reside could have jurisdiction. Please help...tax issues are at stake. Thank you.

Re: Child Support Jurisdiction

hi - i would have to look at your judgment as well as the ny order. you might want to get a lawyer licensed in ny to see what happened there. or you could call your probation dept. to ask them to enforce your nj order. if you have any other questions, feel free to call me at 609 263-0089. good luck !!
