Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

My ex wife just served me with a subpoena. I was divorced back in 2009. She has taken me back to court for more money. She is requesting that I bring all of my personal and business information to her attorney's office to have a deposition. I am a self employed contractor. She wants to see every receipt for material, invoices and more. Can she do this? Must I comply?

I am assuming she is asking for more child support...right? If there are "changed circumstances" (you make more money now) the support order can be modified.

You need to protect yourself, and getting a lawyer will probably help. Feel free to write back direct to [email protected] if you want to discuss anything in detail.

I do need to know more information to determine the validity of your wife's request. In theory, she can request this information for numerous reasons, including an increase in alimony or child support or if she believes that the final numbers in divorce were based on incorrect information, etc. You definately should have an attorney review the recent request as well as the final property settltment agreement. Please contact me at 732-663-1500 to further discuss this amtter.

Thank you.
