Legal Question in Medical Leave in New Jersey

does fmla apply if not employed for a full year?

i was pregnant when hired by my most recent employer. when i was put on disability in the later part of my pregnancy, i was taken out of work by my dr. a week later my husband received a letter stating that my employment was severed due to my leave of abscence. i contacted work after discharge from the hospital (the letter arrived while i was in the hospital to deliver my baby} and they said i must go through the hiring process again because i was not employed for a full year and do not qualify for fmla leave to have my baby. i though it was illegal to fire someone for being pregnant and on disability?
