Legal Question in Immigration Law in New Jersey

immigration papers

im married to a us resident...we been fighting lately and because of that he wasnt takin his responsibilities with our son for over a month and a half...so i decided to file for child support...we not going to get divorce we worked things out but if we decide to file for the immigration papers does it affect something now that i had filed for child support...should i stop the child support wha should i do?
