Idea for a book

I have an idea for a unique hardcover book.

Is there a way I can protect my idea before calling a book publisher to see if

they may be interested is creating it?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Idea for a book

Yes. In fact, you are already protected to a significant degree. Copyright is automatic. You have the copyright once you create the work. The copyright is not much good unless you can enforce it, and that takes a registration since copyrights, like patents, are created by Federal law. You need a registration to be able to get into Federal Court to enforce your copyright. But, good news....it is inexpensive to register. The official fee is $20 per registration and attorneys typically charge $100-$200 for preparing a copyright application. See my website www.burdlaw.com for more details.
