Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Discrimination Case?

I requested a copy of the business rules as they apply to my territory changes and why I was not offered a severance package. At the time that I was informed of the new territory changes, I was not offered a severance. My choices were to accept the new territory, interview for another position in the company, or resign, there are not any jobs with the co. without reloc. so I felt I have been forced to resign.HR department informed me of the 50 mile rule as criteria for sevrence (I meet this at 67 miles from my house to the center of the terr.).While HR looked into my case,I was asked the question,''with or without the severance are you still leaving the company?''and I said yes,due to the size & loc. of the terr.I feel that since the co. already knew that I was leaving, they did not feel that I was owed a severance package.I hope that my 6 months FMLA leave and decision not to attend the national meeting & training due to my nursing mother status played no part in the decision. 1 wk later they tell me that on a my zip code is in the new territory, which makes me ineligible. However, my house is outside city limits & does not have its' own zip. I want to ensure I was treated fairly & equally. HR has not provided me w/ Bus. Rules yet

Re: Discrimination Case?

Companies generally are not required to provide a severance package. They do this in order to get assurance from you that you won't sue for wrongful termination, discrimination, etc. How does you house not have a zip code? Don't you need one for mail? You need to get a copy of the rules and see how they read.
