Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

- i recently moved into a new apartment in a not so good neighborhood. my car has been broken into on 2 occasions and my landlord has been caught in my apartment without my knowledge by a neighbor... when i asked my landlord about it, she said the tenant was a liar. i also live above a flower shop that had a gas leak and the fumes were traveling up into my apartment... i called the landlord and told her about it. she said she would get back to me and never did. my 2yr old and i were rushed to the emergency room 2 days later from the fume inhalation. my landlord had verbally agreed to make changes to my apartment prior to me moving in, which now 2months later she hasnt made. she called pse&g to come and shut the lights off knowing im pregnant and have 2children in the house, without giving me any notice... even though she came and collected her rent the same day they came and she let them in to the basement which only she has a key to. now the landlord has never given me a receipt for the rent i paid and im afraid if i take her to court she'll say i never paid it. i would like to break my lease and find a more suitable and safe environment but i need to know the proper channels to take without losing my deposit, with the break ins to my vehicle, her entering my apartment without my knowledge, and the issues with my health and safety... i just want out. i would also like to have this done in a decent time line.

Robert Davies The Davies Law Firm, P.A.

You really need a lawyer's help. You may even have a claim for money for harm to you and the children, too.

Call me if you want me to assist. Please call my office to make an appointment. This initial consultation for one half hour will be free of charge, and I will let you know what I believe I can do to assist you further.

If you can not afford to pay a lawyer, I will talk to you briefly anyway!

And I can get you in touch with Legal Aid, and they may be able to help.
