Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Is it illegal to stand in a handicapped zone? My child needed to use the restroom in a service station in Alpine so I just stopped the car long enough for her to get out of the car.

To physically stand outside of a car in a handicapped zone is not a problem, but if you mean you parked your car temporarily so that your child could use the restroom and your car did not have a handicapped sticker and you waited there for the child to return then yes if an officer was present you could have gotten a ticket. It is up to a Judge to decide if what you did violated the law based on the facts, generally, if you do not have the sticker or tag and are in good physical health and do not qualify as handicapped, it is generally not a good idea to park in a handicapped space. If you got a ticket, you should request a court date and go and speak to the Municipal Prosecutor, maybe they will cut you some slack. feel free to call should have any questions otherwise good luck, J Mincis (201)-894-9498
