Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Jersey

tax liability for Inheritance from Denmark

I am a us citizen, my wife is a green card holder (danish citizen). My father in law passed away in May and we have inherited $82,000 after danish inheritance taxes. We have been issued a check to deposit here in the USA. What are our tax (or other) obligations with regards to this money?

Re: tax liability for Inheritance from Denmark

An inhertiance is not usually subject to any taxes in the US (State or Federal) unless the asset inherited was an income-tax deferred type of asset (like a 401(k) or IRA account). Just deposit the check.
