attorneys billing fees

i signed a contract for an attorney to represent me in a divorce, at the comencement i gave himm$5000.00 i never received any itemized bill until the conclusion at which time he sent me a bill for 9,430 additionial dollars it did not go to trial, settled by abortraitor and i wound up paying maintance, child support, maritial debt, portion of my pension. what are my options at this time.

This can happen. The best insurance is to require your approval for any new billings over 1,000.

But this has already happened. i recommend that you request an itemized bil - immediately. And get a 'certificate of mailing' on the mailed request. You want a record of the request, but do not want to frighten him.

Then, if your interest is in paying more money, ask to negotiate the bill down. Look for 50%.

If you wish to contest the bill, go to the local Bar Association and ask for arbitration.
