Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York

A leased car is in my name. From July of this year, I was unable financially to cover the car payments; the leasing agent gave me the option of finding someone to take over the payments. The current driver got into a car accident on the 13th of this month. On the 22nd the driver's wife contacts me to say that her daughter was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. As part of the written agreement that we made (which wasn't notarized) they were to give me the money and I would make the payments to the car company and car insurance company. The car insurance was cancelled at the time of the accident. The accident is a no-fault accident (driver was hit from behind). Now the current driver is threatening to sue me for damages. What legal options do I have?

Thank you for your time.
